ESA Support Group migration to Universal Credit: Questions was created by Hfd
Hi, I have a few questions regarding my managed migration to UC from Income related ESA, Support Group:
1. My Support Group status should transfer with me automatically? And my claimant commitment should be very minimal?
2. I do not have a valid passport but have a driving license. Will I be able to verify my ID online? If not, can they do it by telephone? I am not well enough to travel to the job centre unless absolutely necessary.
3. Do I need to provide them with/ upload bank statements? (I have less than £6000 and I understand that the Cost of living payments we received are disregarded anyway? )
4. I live I Scotland and CAB informed me that there are Scottish Choices available where we can choose to be paid twice a month and to have our rent paid direct to our landlord. Does this happ3n immediately for the first payment?
Sorry, many questions. Thank you.

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

Hi Hfd
To answer your questions-
1) Yes you will be given LCWRA ( Support Group ) status in UC and your claimant commitment will be basic.
2)Yes it can be done by phone and if necessary it can be done at your home by a DWP Visiting Officer. Online ID requirements vary so I cannot make a prediction.
3)It is upto the DWP as to what proof of savings etc you need to provide.
4) Yes you can have your UC paid fortnightly and/or direct to the landlord. That is called a UC APA ( alternative payment arrangement ).
Let me know how you get on.

Hi. Thanks for your reply.
Getting v stressed about providing bank statements. Unbeknownst to me my account went over the 6000 threshold by about 120 after an ESA payment 31st Dec and then went down again by the 13th Jan after bills, payments went out. I didn't know until I received bank statement. It is currently at about 5500. Will I get penalised for going over for a few days and not telling them? My account always fluctuates after receiving ESA payments and before bills go out. My Cold Weather payment also put me over by about 60 at the beginning of Dec for a few days.
Help. How likely are they to look at this?

Hi Hfd
The DWP doesn't have routine access to balances. In the future this may change according to new proposed legislation. I would not worry at all. They are not going to summon you to the Jobcentre for a Compliance interview for £5 which is approx. what the tariff income would be on that amount.

And I understand that the Cost of Living payments we received are discounted from our savings/income indefinitely/permanently?
Am I stressing about nothing? Sorry can't think straight with stress about migration. CAS said they shouldn't ask for bank statement during migration, only for a review. I have no other accounts or savings to declare and no other income at all except ESA, Housing B and Council Tax reduction. I assume I will be of little interest to them?
