Comment moderation guidelines

If your comment has not been published yet it may simply be awaiting moderation.  It can be several hours or more before we check comments.

But not all comments get published.  We try to stick to the guidelines below, though sometimes a comment that breaches them does get through, because moderation is done at speed at busy times.

We aim for Benefits and Work to be a site that all claimants can visit without fear they are going to be judged or attacked.

We want people to provide helpful, informative or supportive posts. Comments that don't meet these criteria won't get published, this includes - but is not limited to - comments that:

  • Criticise other groups of claimants, such as young people, people with substance abuse or dependency issues, people with mental health conditions such as depression or anxiety.
  • Allege that there is a large proportion of fraudulent PIP claims – the DWP’s own statistics put PIP fraud at close to zero.
  • Attack asylum seekers or migrants – this is a welfare benefits website, immigration policy is not a subject we cover.
  • Criticise how claimants use their PIP - there are no rules on how PIP should be spent and each person's needs are different.
  • Criticise other posters rather than their arguments.
  • Spam articles with frequent or too similar posts.
  • Are off-topic, such as dealing with wider political issues or conspiracy theories.
