Turnaround time PIP review assessments

Hi B&W ppl

My brother recently tried to call PIP to provide more info on his health. It turns out this review has been pending for 1 year ! Is that normal time frame to expect ?

Also he has been told they need specialist input to assess his health condition ..... what does that mean and how long does that take ?

i'm trying to get to bottom of this ... he obvs needs help and cant engage on the phone with them - he failed the basic security questions. This is a common thing for him , issues engaging with ppl and systems.

i tried getting sense of the turnaround times from searching forum posts and saw recent posts stating decisions received within a month of review submission.

is there cause for alarm bells in this case ?

Hi Sum

The turnaround varies considerably as you have found out. There are people who have been waiting nearly two years for their reviews to take place, and some who find they are done within 8 weeks. It's impossible to tell.

The specialist input: - They want to consult a medical professional to help assess his condition. This could be any relevant medical professional who helps in the care of your brother.

Ironically thats what he was calling PIP for , to tell them he had updates from his medical teams.

He asked for supporting letters last year , but following mums death , (he lived with mum and was dependent on her) i guess things just got lost, for all of us.

Lucky the team remembered the request on a recent appt and provided supporting letters.

So , what should he do ?

Hi Sum

You could always send in the copies of the supporting letters and ask them to be added to his records

I intend to step in and manage his DWP affairs. Its too much for him to manage own his own.

Our elder brother was helping him with daily living and all medical appts , while trying to encourage achievable independence. Elder brother has FT work and his own family responsibilities so i think it got too much for him to track DWP ... we all no its looong n we all dread waiting on the endless call queues. His brains are fried tbh.

We discussed LPA for our younger brother after mum died , that still needs to be sorted tbh. For now we all agreed, best to apply for appointee to help him deal with DWP.

i'm going to pick it up tomorrow.
