Hi Bob

It would be a good idea if this guy messes up big time to keep proof of what he has told you. So send him some UC Journal messages just to get in writing what you're told. Also take a photo of the Journal message as they can subsequently be deleted from your account.

Thank you, that’s what I was wondering, so I’ll write up a synopsis of today’s conversation in my journal and screen grab it then. Does that sound right though that I had to choose between ns esa and uc or just uc? Totally threw me.

Hi Bob

It sounds as if he has only been partially trained in Benefits and this applies to a lot of Work Coaches. What he should have said is that you can receive New Style ESA and Universal Credit at the same time. But the New Style ESA is deducted from the full Universal Credit entitlement so at the end of the day you are not better off.
However UC is means tested but New Style ESA is not so some people like to keep the ESA going, just in case in the future they do not meet the means test.

I don't understand why the adviser was asking you to choose between having ESA or UC. You can receive New Style ESA as well as UC. If you have a dual claim for every £ of ESA you receive your Universal Credit will be reduced by the same amount. I think that you need to ask why you can't have both.

No he wasn’t saying I could have one or the other he was asking me to choose esa and uc or just uc.
I wasn’t expecting a choice I was expecting to agree an esa agreement conditions
