Do DM's look at whether an ESA claimant is in receipt of DLA when assessing, or re-assessing?

I'm fairly sure they do, but they shouldn't be.

ESA is a benefit for claimants who are absent from work due to ill health/disability, whilst DLA can be paid to those in work who have substantial mobility and/or care needs.

It depends.

Each application stands alone and you should not assume that the Decision Maker will know whether you receive any other benefits. However, we have heard of ESA assessments being used as evidence for DLA claims and of claimants who are found 'fit for work' finding that this has a negative impact on their DLA claim.

In case you are not aware, your real name appears to be showing in the forum, if you want to change this then follow the instructions in the following FAQ

They may be aware that a claimant also has an award of DLA, but it is unlikely that they will actively seek information in regard to DLA to help them decide an ESA claim.

You can send both ATOS and the DWP information in regard to your DLA claim, but you should be aware that the criteria for DLA either do not correspond to the ESA Descriptors, or where they do, the DLA criteria are less strict than the equivalent ESA ones, so even a DLA award of Higher Rate Care will not entitle you to ESA.

Hi d,

It may help towards the "walking" part of the ESA Mobilsising activity, but under ESA, you will also be assessed on whether you can self propel a manual wheelchair unaided.
