Hi D65,

You should mention any adverse side effects that you may suffer as result of having to take prescription meds.

It may help to include the advisory leaflet that comes with the meds, which may confirm the side effects that you suffer.

You could also research the meds on the internet, and print off any relevant information that may also confirm the side effects that you suffer.

Don't forget to try and tie in the adverse side effects suffered with the relevant qualifying ESA descriptors.

Hi me again,

regarding the side effects of medication.

Do ATOS & DWP disregard anything (pain and tremors) if medication taken for a mental health
condition causes a physical problem through side effect?

Thanks
Dave

I am afraid there is no clear answer to this, our recommendation is to ignore the limitation and argue your case on the ESA50, they will either agree with you or not.

The following is an example from the DWP guidance on the matter.

Brian suffers from rheumatoid arthritis in his hands and knees, and claims ESA. In the questionnaire Brian states that due to cognitive and mental impairment he has difficulty with learning tasks, awareness of hazards and completing personal actions. At the medical examination, Brian explains that the high level of painkillers he takes for his arthritis makes him too tired to concentrate. The HCP advises that Brian is mentally disabled by the medication, but not sufficiently to satisfy any mental health descriptors. Brian scores 6 points for mobility problems.

Hi all,

I sent my form back on time but couldn't send GP's letter. I now have it but can't remember the
Address. It was a PO box in Chester. The internet gives different PO box numbers. Can I just send it directly to the Bootle address?

Any help would be appreciated.

Regards
Dave.
