Yes thanks I understand.

I responded in the way I did because I was so anxious I could barely think straight enough to read all the FAQS. In future I will have to learn to calm down into a state where I can take all the useful information in.

I posted my query about ten minutes after getting my migration letter after fifteen uninterrupted years of getting disability benefits. I will obviously have to learn to deal with the system as it is now.

Again many thanks for all the info and links. We live in uncertain times indeed. :(

All the best,

Avalon

No Problem A. :)

It is quite understandable for you to be so anxious.

cheers

I just thought I would post this as I recently received the form ESA50 , the limited capacity for work questionnaire as part of the migration over from IS/IB.

I have been on these benefits for many years and have a long-term health condition.

I should say at the beginning that I do not agree with these forms as I think it puts horrible stress on the most vulnerable people and I only post this because, when I received mine, I was in such a state after reading some of the stuff online, that I thought it might help someone else to read of my experience.

I have a neurological condition which is not easy to explain and I always fear that it won't be understood properly because it can appear that I'm fine at times, and it is only when you live with me that you realize I cannot live unaided as I get into a terrible mess with everything. Very, very hard to explain but very, very real.

Anyway, I filled in the form, took me ages and I used several continuation pages as the little boxes on the form are just not big enough to give answers and examples (which they ask you for). I sent in all the reports I could find, including Social Service assessments and other assessments.

I then sent the form back.

A week later I had someone ring them to check it had been received (I cannot use the telephone) and they had received it, it had been over to their medical secttion, and was back with them at the Job Centre) and they had made their decision. I was in the support group, no need for me to do anything further.

About ten days later I received the DWP confirmation of this with all the details of the switchover, which seems to mostly consist of name changes to various of the benefits and top-ups that I received.

It went absolutely smoothly. I was not called for an assessment or medical. So I would really urge people to send it all that you can with the forms because that does seem to help.

I honestly have not had any problems at all. The form was very stressful and caused me a lot of problems as, due to my neurological problems, I needed help to fill it all in and understand what they were asking, but once done, it was fine.

I thought maybe it would help someone to read of another person who had had the form and had had no problems with any of it. It took one week for them to make the decision. and they were very helpful when my support worker rang them to enquire about various things during the process and also when they rang to enquire if they had received the form. The Job Centre person (or DWP person, I'm not sure who it was) offered up that they had a decision, we did not expect them to have done it yet, and the letter came with no problems.
