I was just about to post to say the same.
What a load of utter nonsense yet again from the DWP!

The analogy to working is a poor one, but to continue it, the intention of the P45 is for you to hand it to your new employer, however, this is the DWP, the same as it was before, so you there is no rason to complete the sections and forward them on.Hello
I received the P45 as well, when I was moved from Incapacity Benefit to ESA. I didn't know I had to take any copies to the jobcentre, and have only kept the copy that said 'Keep this copy'.
Will anything happen?
Thanks

I received a P45 when I migrated from IB to ESA during the last tax year. Today I received a P60 showing just my ESA income and giving "previous employment pay" as zero. So maybe we are supposed to have returned part of the P45 to them as "new employer"?

The P45 and P60 are tax certificates in regard to your benefits, both IB and ESA(CB) (not ESAIR)) are liable to tax, however the DWP do not process income tax in regard to benefits so you have been sent the certificates to allow you to manage your own tax affairs with HMRC.
Being liable to tax does not mean that you will have to pay tax, this will be dependant on your personal circumstances and any other taxable income that you have.
