Really struggling about a PIP Decision knowing how many suffer. was created by bea
Sorry, but I really can't understand this. Found out two days ago that a 17 year old has been awarded full mobility and full care on PIP. Great you may say, but knowing how many struggle on here, with zero points at assessment and reconsideration, and then if they can find the energy to fight, finally get something through tribunal, having supplied reams and reams of evidence, I just can't get my head round this. His mum did not fill in most of the PIP form, he did not have to face an assessment, he does not have a diagnosis, he travels to college on a bus daily and is completing an apprenticeship, he washes, dresses and feeds himself, he freely goes out with his peers and to entertainment., he has no issues walking, he has one report from Thrive from school. His sister is going to get the new car, as the DWP have said she can have it as long as she collects any prescriptions he needs, which have been for a skin condition and antibiotics? She is going to use the car for the rest of the time and pay him £50 per week. DWP told his mum this was OK.
I really don't understand this, knowing how many struggle, fight and feel they have no option other than to end their lives due to being made to feel so abused by the DWP and government, even amputees, who face assessment every 2 years don't qualify for cars? Why do some get everything and others have to fight so, so hard?
Yes, I do know this person personally, so not just being judgemental and abelist.

Hi Barbara
PIP is an imperfect system, and there are many decisions that are hard to understand.

But you are being judgemental. In your opinion he should not have been awarded PIP. Is that based on what you actually know about the claimant? Or are there hidden disabilities and problems that you don’t know about?
Or do you feel the claim is fraudulent? If so then you should report it.
You might want to consider changing your forum name.

My 2 adult children get full pip for both care and mobility. Both on ongoing awards. They still go out with us and enjoy social activities but nobody sees what happens leading up to them going out or what happens when plans have to change. Or the overwhelming thoughts that they get at 11pm at night and the meltdown that goes with it. Or the 5 phone calls we get through the night from our son who is living semi-independently. Just because someone appears a certain way doesn’t always mean that’s how the situation actually is. Appearances can be deceptive and after having to children on the spectrum it has taught me to never judge a book by its cover.

BIS and Blueberry Owl are both right. Not like a driving test where you should get same result based on your drive on the day. These WCA’s and PIP assessments are very subjective and can go either way.
What I think we need to do is not to fall into the trap of attacking each other. That’s what the haters want.
But if you really feel something is not right I suppose you could write to the DWP. I think they encourage that. In the current climate they might well look into it.

Yes it is entirely based on exactly what I know, about the person, as confirmed by his parent, who continually sends me copies of all the things she needs explaining. As someone who has also had to compose letters to help them in the past, and being told that the PIP form wasn't even completed entirely, so yes you can call me all the names you want, judgemental, etc, etc.
I see some of the stories on here, and the things most of us go through, zero points, no to mandatory reconsideration, and if you can manage to drag yourself up off the floor, and don't take those extra tablets, whilst subjecting yourself through the tribunal process, you just might get your award back.
Not even had to face the disgusting assessment process, where the report is filled with lies and untruthful statements, by unqualified people who aren't even allowed to decide if someone has mental health issues, as per their recognised qualifications body.
Once you finally get that little help, the government ensures that every one blames those sick and disabled for being a drain on the whole county, and causing all the problems.
