UC Deadline Date, Medical Conditions and Evidence

Hi, I'm new to the forum so I hope this is all ok - I tried searching the topics but got overwhelmed. Thanks to all the brilliant people helping e/o on here!

I'm on irESA in the Support Group for multiple physical and mental conditions, and have been notified of my migration deadline to apply for UC. I wasted a month in illness and depression, and another month trying to sort out ND assessment referrals with my GP (still trying!) - now I'm just under a month to my deadline date.

1st Question: Do I have to claim BEFORE the deadline date, or is it legit to claim ON the deadline date?

The whole B and W migration guide phrasing is "before" the date throughout, and I'd previously assumed I could claim on the date itself.

My deadline date is the Tuesday after Easter weekend. I don't understand if my final date to claim is the Thursday before the triple bank holiday, the bank holiday Monday, or the Tuesday which is my stated deadline date.

Any clarity would be appreciated!

Question 2: What kind of medical supporting evidence do I need to provide, and does this all have to be sent in before/on the deadline date?
Do I have to provide proof of all my medical conditions, upcoming appointments etc? I know I shouldn't have to do a WCA but not sure what evidence I need outside of that, and when I need it by.

Question 3: Are newer diagnoses of additional conditions a change of circumstance, even if my abilities remain the same?
I have extra diagnoses since I last had to reapply for irESA, it's taking decades to get to the bottom of everything that's wrong with me. If I list these additional ones, does this count as a change of circumstances and invalidate my transitional cover? Am I committing fraud if I don't mention them?

Clarification: I'm not on PIP because when I was on it I had to reapply and a traumatic tribunal experience + CPTSD made it impossible for me to reapply for many years. I should be getting it really, but from the B&W guide it looks like I lose my transitional cover if I apply for PIP after I claim UC (and I can't cope with applying before my deadline date). Is this correct?

Thanks for your help and sending love and solidarity to everyone out there!

Hi Alysa

1st Question: Do I have to claim BEFORE the deadline date, or is it legit to claim ON the deadline date?
Yes you can claim on the deadline day which in your case is the Tuesday after the Easter Bank Holiday Monday.

Question 2: What kind of medical supporting evidence do I need to provide, and does this all have to be sent in before/on the deadline date?
None at all. Let us know if a Work Coach starts asking for proof of a health condition.

Question 3: Are newer diagnoses of additional conditions a change of circumstance, even if my abilities remain the same?
No they are not. Do not report any new or worsening health conditions on the UC application itself. You are in the ESA Support Group and will be placed automatically in the UC LCWRA group. When you have submitted your new UC claim you can send a Journal message summarizing your new health conditions.

4.I should be getting it really, but from the B&W guide it looks like I lose my transitional cover if I apply for PIP after I claim UC
No new claims for PIP don't have any effect at all on Transitional Protection for someone such as yourself.
I assume you are a single person without dependents.

Let me know how you get on.

David, thanks so much for this speedy and definitive reply!!

I am so relieved by your responses, and I'll be sure to update with my experience/outcomes.

Yes I am single with no dependents.

Please could I also ask, to verify ID I only currently have a passport, but I assume I will get a P60 soon too. Do you think I should wait to set up my account until I have my P60? I've gone through the UC form questions linked to on the B&W migration guide, but obviously don't want any surprises.

(I must have misunderstood the PIP situation - maybe I was thinking of the sever disability premium. It's so much info to juggle!)

Hi Alysa

You don't have to wait for the P60. You may be able to use the online ID verification with an in date passport and a credit reference check. If the credit reference check does not work you could use the passport and P60 when it arrives.

Hi I hope it's ok to start up this thread again for continuity.

The UC Migration form asks you to specify the exact date on a drop down menu that each condition began to affect your ability to work.

This seems impossible to me, since it's hard to make sense of interacting and long term conditions, especially when un/underdiagnosed for a long time, and new diagnosise are still being made/waiting for assessments (after decades).

As many of my conditions were affecting me long before I was diagnosed, I wondered if anyone could clarify what info they're actually looking for here?

a) The date I actually started to be affected/limited by symptoms
b) The date I was limited once I had received official diagnosis
c) Whatever I might have put on my ESA forms many years ago in response to similarly impossible questions (will they cross reference?)

Thanks again for the support and love goes out to everyone dealing (or not dealing) with all of this!

I tried to reapply for a provisional driving licence online today to try and get some secondary ID before my deadline, but ironically their ID check on me failed for Kafkaesque reasons.

They said I need to apply by post and send ID, which I assume would be my passport. I'm very nervous to risk my passport getting lost/delayed around my claim being assessed, as this is my only form of ID.

I spent literally all day today on the phone and web chats to DVLA, gov.uk one login, HMRC and DWP UC line and ESA line.

I ended up with nothing, no ability to apply for a provisional online, find out my old number, or even a chance to have a copy of my previous P60. DWP eventually let me know their internal deadline for getting current P60s out is 31st May. With my migration deadline being 22nd April I expect this would be too late to be of use to me.

I'm really anxious about having to have a home visit, as going to the job centre is too much for me. Having people in my home is also extremely distressing as I live in a very cluttered and untidy environment so the shame is excessive, and I tend to have a trauma reaction due to anxiety and CPTSD.

Reading other threads it looks like a phone ID check is unlikely as they prefer to do a home visit. Is there any advice to try and get a phone call instead of in person? If I have to wait for a visit will it delay my first UC payment?
