Questions about completing ESA50 was created by SussexChris
I hope you can help me with a couple of questions concerning completing the ESA50 form for my 22 year old son.
I have a copy of an MRI scan report taken when he was two (brain damage) and a letter from a Consultant confirming there was no change in the results when a further MRI was done when he was fifteen. Do you think it would be worthwhile including copies with the ESA50 form or would they be too old to be classed as relevant?
Question 11, learning how to do tasks. As a test of his ability in this area I have been teaching him how to use a washing machine as they suggest this is a more complicated task. I have carried this out, daily, for eight days and he still requires prompting to complete the task successfully. I was thinking of writing a breakdown of the steps taught and then what happened each day with regards to what he forgot and needed prompting to do. If I do include it where would be the best place, in the notes section of question 11 and/or the ‘Other information’ section?
Thank you
Chris

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

Hi Chris,
I think the MRI and letter would be useful in providing the background information. The letter could show that there is no expectation of improvement in the future.
Your idea of documenting the steps you have taken to teach your son to use the washing machine is good. It probably doesn't matter if you include this with the step 11 question or as extra information.

Thank you Mrs Hurtyback, off now to find the letters which have been safely 'filed'!
I think I will include the learning task as extra information as I am writing a report as his carer under that section.
Thank you again

Please remember that being unable to "operating a washing machine" only scores 6 points so you will need to show problems in other areas in order to meet the 15 points required for the WRAG.
