Tasks you struggle with on a day-to-day basis: I can’t stay upright for more than a few minutes. I need to rest after dressing, so only get changed every other day. I manage a shower about once a week, and have to plan it for days I’m not doing anything else. I can only make very basic food and have meal replacement shakes often when I run out of energy to make anything. I sleep on the sofa regularly as I struggle to climb the stairs due to energy and pain. I only leave the house about once a fortnight in my electric wheelchair. |
Expected income you will lose if the Green Paper cuts are imposed: I’d lose New style ESA support group and PIP. That’s about £16000. I may also have to find money to pay for an NI credit if I lose that due to ESA changes, or risk having no pension. I could not afford the meal delivery service I have, or the carer who comes to check on me and do minor household tasks. I would never leave the house as I couldn’t afford taxis to get me places in the wheelchair, or to pay for the insurance or services for the chair.. |
Expected problems if you tried moving into work, with support from a work coach: I cannot focus for more than about 30 minutes at a time, then need to rest before I become tired. I could maybe manage 4 hours across a week, spread out in irregular 30 min blocks. I’d also be risking making myself worse is I pushed too far and triggered PEM, and would have to reduce some of the self care tasks to be able to manage work I.e. washing, changing, doing own budgeting and paying bills. I couldn’t be reliable either for a job or a work coach. |
Anything else to tell us: I didn’t choose to be ill. I’ve worked for over a decade with a disability (EDS) while I could, and would go back tomorrow if I was well but it just isn’t possible anymore. I prepared for the possibility of being ill by taking insurance, but will now be penalised as far as a pension goes because I’m not on UC. |
