Main health condition: Physical health |
Main conditions that affect daily living: Myalgic Encephalomyelitis Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Joint hypermobility Chronic Migraines Arthritis Hearing Impairment IBS |
Rate of PIP daily living component: Standard |
4 point descriptor score: No |
Possibility to score at least one 4-point daily living descriptor at the next review: Very unlikely even though I use multiple aids and adaptations at home |
Tasks you struggle with on a day-to-day basis: Due to severe fatigue and dizziness, I only shower once or twice a week and make do with a brief wash most days at a sink or using baby wipes. I struggle to stand for more than a few minutes which can make it difficult to prepare meals I do not currently have a carer, I manage fairly well at present even with my limitations but if my condition worsened I could struggle. Nevertheless I remain virtually housebound. I do my grocery shopping online. If my current level of benefit was reduced further, I am unable to work even from home with my fatigue levels annd anffected cognition, and do not know what I could do to support myself. |
Expected income you will lose if the Green Paper cuts are imposed: I would lose the standard daily living component along with the severe disability premium. I would then expect my ESA to be affected so I could potentially end up with no money to live on. |
Expected problems if you tried moving into work, with support from a work coach: I have been unwell for almost twenty years. In that period I have tried a number of times to return to work. Employers made no adjustments for my illnesses and I was expected to keep up at the same pace as more able-bodied employees. As a result I became even more unwell than before. As things stand, even if adjustments could be made for my fluctuating conditions, I would expect to still remain at a high level of ill health and would still have many days where I was too sick to work. I find it hard to believe that I could find meaningful employment. |
