Nickname: Worried and terrified |
Age: 54 |
Main health condition: Both physical and mental health |
Main conditions that affect daily living: ME/CFS, Fibromyalgia, tension headaches, sciatica, high blood pressure, depression. New conditions after the last phone assessment Osteoarthritis on both knees (I suspect on right ankle as well but waiting to get a doctor’s appointment), bursitis on both hips. |
Rate of PIP daily living component: Standard |
4 point descriptor score: No |
Possibility to score at least one 4-point daily living descriptor at the next review: Not very hopeful 🙁 |
Tasks you struggle with on a day-to-day basis: Preparing meals, washing/bathing, getting dressed, toilet needs, getting up from sitting position, unable to sleep in bed (been sleeping on sofa for the last 2 years). |
Expected income you will lose if the Green Paper cuts are imposed: I would lose PIP and SDP element of ESA, on top of this I would not be able to continue my part time permitted work (11 hrs per week) as I won’t be able to afford transport to and from work. So it is a considerable loss of income. |
Expected problems if you tried moving into work, with support from a work coach: I already work 3 days (11 hrs in total within my permitted work). Three days out of 7 are spent in agony, recovering and taking a lot of painkillers, crying and feeling sorry for myself, one day is trying to have a quick wash (or a shower if it’s a good day). And yes, I can only manage one wash/shower per week but there’s been far too many occasions when I only managed to wash my hair once a month. What support will a work coach provide? A miracle? A cure for my health conditions? If that were the case they’d deserve a Noble Prize! I already work, albeit only 11 hours per week. I do it not only because I need to pay my bills but also because it’s the only interaction I can have with other people. Otherwise I would be housebound. All my shopping is done online and I don’t go outside apart from the days I work. |
Anything else to tell us: As mentioned above my life is very limited and revolves around the days I work. I’m well aware that with my conditions I should rest a lot and not overdo it but bills need paying. Losing PIP and SDP would have a massive impact on my health, physical and mental. I would not be able to afford transport to work, doctor appointments etc, I would not be able to feed myself (I rely on ready meals as I cannot prepare them myself, online shopping is more expensive than in store which I cannot go to). I will become housebound and unable to pay bills and the mortgage and will lose my home. The mental health is already been affected by the latest news and the stress levels have hit the roof rendering me unable to sleep with palpitations, blood pressure has risen and I’ve been prescribed a higher dose of medication. I’m worried about migrating to UC from ESA IR support group. I’m worried as my current PIP award is due to end and of March 2026 and I don’t think I would get 4 points. I wasn’t awarded PIP for mobility, but since then I have new condition’s osteoarthritis on both knees and bursitis on both hips and I suspect osteoarthritis on right ankle. I’ve had so many falls because my ankle gave in and my left knee is permanently bruised, scratched and bleeding. Stress is one of main factors which has a negative impact on my ME and fibromyalgia and the flare ups have been far worse and more frequent lately. The future loos bleak |
