The Labour List website  has updated its list of Labour MPs who have openly said they will vote against the Pathways to Work Green Paper cuts.  There are now 27 MPs who say they will do so, up from 12 just a few days ago.

Another seven Labour MPs have expressed opposition to the cuts, but not yet said they will vote against them.

For MPs to put their heads above the parapet this long before the battle begins takes a certain amount of courage.  They will undoubtedly come under huge pressure from Labour whips to back down before a bill to change the PIP points system and cut the universal credit health element for new claims is introduced in May.

If the bill is certified as a money bill, the Lords will not be able to amend or delay it for more than a month, meaning the cuts could be on the statute book by the end of July, ready to be implemented next year.

But with 27 Labour MPs now openly rebelling and one Labour MP having started a petition against his own party’s plans, not everything is going the government’s way.

You can check if your MP is on the list here.

If they are, perhaps send them an email to offer your support for their stand.

If not, and you haven’t already contacted them, now is the time to do so.  Getting MPs to come out against the Green Paper cuts is undoubtedly the best way of defeating them.

There’s more on contacting your MP and many other steps you can take on our What you can do page.

Wrong benefit being targeted on the most vulnerable. Pip is not a sickness benefit for starters. Universal credit and esa is given to those who are sick or out of work. But do not touch the severely disabled benefits you will cost lifes labour and have blood on your hands. Leave P.I.P alone stop targeting those that can't physically work and already struggling as things stand. Stop handing out money right left and center abroad and help the British people especially the most vulnerable the elderly and disabled. I'm disgusted that not all mps are not against the cuts. Save life's and stop the cuts now before it's to late and people end up in poverty and lose there lifes.

@Anon If you put them all in a list like that you will feel anxious and hopeless. I try to notice and focus on stuff that isn't like all that crap, otherwise it just feels like doom and overwhelm. Also, remember our perceptions are being manipulated by the media and the political agendas, which are deliberately trying to control how we feel. They can only have that control if we give it to them. Make sure you look at the sky as often as possible, it really helps to clear our minds!

@Anon I hear you. I feel the same. It's like a landslide coming down on top of us.
Seems like each day we get hit with something else. I'd an unexpected workman  call today, I couldn't face him. I thought I'd have a melt down.
I was in a panic. I know he will be back I just hope not soon. It's a trivial thing in the wider spectrum of things but it really got to me. I guess small things can become big things and we all know we've had our fill of the big things.

@Anon Anon don't lose the plot. You have plenty of time ahead, switch off and get into watching a tv drama series of some sort. The media hype is always like this and there are plenty of battles to fight before anyone wins the war. Don't let it get to you and speak to your doctor about anxiety so he can give you medication for it. As they saying goes the world keeps on turning all of the above is always happening and each day is a new battle to survive and living your life is a way of fighting back! Enjoy what you have today and don't worry about tomorrow if tomorrow ever comes! Take care

I'm so pleased they are fighting for us, I'm severely disabled with permanent severe nerve damage to the spine and I've not been able to physically work since 2016 and for the rest of my life. These changes rachel reeves is bringing to the table is wrong. It will put me into poverty as I can't work and don't have 4 points on one daily living question only 2s 8 in total and 12 points enhanced mobility movement. It will kill me if you can stop taking from vulnerable and take from the wealthy who can afford everything.

My cousins son who worked for the NHS had desperately bad back problems and numerous operations, none which helped, he also had MH problems and did all to get help. My aunt found him dead slumped over his computer in his room, job searching, Just earlier this morning. He'd only got his pip reinstated after a fight last yr. He was 31.

It's been one thing after another really. Awk he was a kindly soul. Premature baby at 28 weeks. Tiny wee thing. Such a shame.
Trying to stay upright with all my health woes is even more of a strain this past while. But I really feel for my auntie ,she's almost 80. Thanks again. Appreciate it. X

Just emailed the Liverpool City Region parliamentary committee. I have still not received any response from Maria Eagle and after checking the list of MPs against cuts her name not in there, very disappointing but not surprised at all either
Glad to see Ian Byrne & Kim Johnson speaking out and will be voting against.
So at least we have them supporting us for our region. I will be emailing them also.

I would not hold my breath with Jess Phillips supporting us.  I have found her totally useless todate on other issues.  I wonder what alot of these MP's would have done if they did not have their fat salary, maybe join many of us down the foodbank?

Instead of cutting pip and other welfare, why don't the government get the people already claiming uc, who don't have disabilities back to work first, it's not right what they are doing to people on pip

and following on from my crystal ball, the new Government health initiative:

Patients should take up smoking, at least forty a day
Drink excessively, not just beer but preferably spirits
Eat as much cake as possible
    Do no exercise
Drop dead before retirement age. You have been a responsible citizen by working for 40 years, paying all your taxes (and getting nothing in return) and not bothering the State with the requirements for a pension (which won't be available anyway)

What was once a real Labour Party, now reflects the ilk of Mandelson, Starmer & Reeves. Politicians without any principles or integrity. Hence so few rebels in Labour. If 27 (or slightly higher) is the best of them, then the party &, alas, we have little chance. It's a banker that Tories & Reform support these cuts. All because they don't want to offend their wealthy backers with a relatively small tax rise on the richest, who after all enjoyed an excellent run during 14 years of Tory tax breaks. There's a choice word that perfectly sums up the likes of those I mention, but I won't taint this forum by writing it. Meantime, our fight goes on. There'll certainly be legal challenges from people with integrity, who at least care.

I've gazed into into my crystal ball, and can see the future post 2029...the next Government will again complain that there is no money left...and disability/health benefits (of any description) will be axed.  You will only receive, for a limited time, Universal Credit at the standard rate. You will have no choice but to take a menial job, on very poor wages, without much employee protection (for the Workers Rights Bill will be repealed) and still be expected to pay tax on practically everything, including food. And then, for those under the age of 40 this year, try to save for a private pension as there will no state pension for you - those over 40 will probably have to wait until after 70. And the 'I'm alright Jack' brigade will vote for this.....

How would an MP be able to live if they had 90% of their wage reduced. Yet only 27 from 400 MPs disagree with these welfare cuts.

If these cuts are all about helping people into work, how does helping people into work by cutting their benefits help disabled pensioners who are included in the 4 point rule?

People who have a complete NI record will not get pension credit without the severe disability allowance awarded with pip. If they don't qualify with the 4 point rule they will be left with the state pension only, no pip, no pension credit, no winter fuel allowance.

On full state pension alone they will also lose at least a few pounds a week housing benefit because the full state pension is higher than the applicable amount for housing benefit. If they have any other (e.g. another pension) income this will be assessed and will also be deducted from their housing benefit.

So, good citizens, you have paid tax, contributed NI, maybe you have saved towards a work or private pension, you might also have responsibly saved some capital which could also reduce your housing benefit.

For this you will be...what? Poor, hungry, cold, homeless? Helped into work (income deducted from housing benefit)? Or just assisted to death?

@Frances But will we still get HB?

I’m not too concerned as even if we don’t die before, we won’t last long as pensioners if this is the way they’re going to treat us.

@Frances Thats the point luv. These are not about helping the disabled or pensioners etc. Its all about slashing the welfare bill primarily because Reeves has boxed herself in with her fiscal rules. Honestly Reeves and Starmer are like souless robots, their mannerisms the way they speak its very scary as there is no empathy or emotion there at all. At this point I'm pretty sure the Starmer and the labour party knows they are toast at the next election but thats four years away so they really dont care and because of the massive majority held in parliament they just push through what they want when they want regardless. The tories couldnt even have got away with this as their would be uproar ironically from labour but now in power a complete different story. And of course the tories will back this as they have been salivating to do something like this for years but always backed down because of the backlash. But because its labour its "moral". We wont forget this betrayal and rest assured Labour wont get in for many years if ever after this but that doesnt help us right now. Disgraceful leader and party

These reforms will be pushed through due to spineless Labour MPs and barbaric Conservative and Reform MPs. This will then pave the way for the next government to be even more cruel and callous with further cuts, which the public will support because they hate us anyway. What's the (expletive) point of carrying on, seriously?
