The posters are not reading the FAQ section first

If they were then more posts would say something like

' I have looked in the FAQs but havent found the answer.

If the site were redesigned it would be helpful to have a common queries page come up when trying to enter the forum, so that it encourages reading

But if yourable gets up and running I beleive the strain will be much relaxed and all this will be academic

Thanks for your suggestions. I'm not sure if the site could be redesigned.
Presumably Steve and our Webmaster could advise on this.

As for Youreable, it closed with no notice shortly before Christmas 2009. Again I was one of it's original moderators.

The Disabled Living Foundation took it over, and promised to re-open YA's forums in the Summer 2010, then they said it would be October, but logging in to YA, you get :

Message from DLF about Youreable

In December 2009 Patterson Medical donated the Youreable website and forum to DLF. DLF knew that this was a valuable resource for many disabled people so was pleased to accept this offer, with a view to developing the site to ensure it continued to support its many users.

During the handover, DLF received a large number of complaints from a small number of forum users about a number of pre-existing issues. These included data protection, security and moderation. We dealt with these issues as we were made aware of them. However, the complaints continued and were escalated to a point where DLF had no option but to close the forum. An external formal enquiry was conducted and it was found that DLF only took over the management of the website in December 2009 and, therefore, many of the complaints predated the charity’s involvement. It was also found that DLF had taken the appropriate steps to ensure that the Youreable website is appropriately managed and users of the forum are safeguarded through the use of moderators that are CRB-checked. It also confirmed that DLF took prompt action where necessary.

Now that this enquiry has been formally closed, DLF has decided to re-open the Youreable website. The Youreable forum is a community and relies on all of you, its members, to make it work. This is a fresh start for Youreable and we hope that members will take this opportunity to move on from all that has happened in the past and focus on the many benefits that Youreable brings to its members.

Our update plan is as follows:
1. DLFwillre-opentheforuminastagedwaybyOctober2010,openingthebenefits forum first.
2. TheforumwillbemoderatedbyDLFstaffmembersandallDLFmoderatorshavebeen CRB-checked. The forum will use reactive moderation and users can complain about posts that break the forum policy using the report button.
3. TheYoureableforumwillrunonnew,up-to-datetechnology.
4. DLFhasupdateditsforumpolicyanditscomplaintspolicyandweadviseallforum users to read these carefully. They can be found in the footer of DLF’s website www.dlf.org.uk.
5. DLFreservestherighttoclosetheforumpermanently,withoutnotice.

I don't think it will ever re-open, but even if it does, it will thank God not be like the old YA where the management allowed trolls, personal abuse to both members and moderators, etc. etc.

Even if the DLF do ever get around to opening it again, it will in my opinion do little to take the pressure off B & W.

Incidently, if you or other members aren't aware, Graham L who moderated YA's 'motoring forum' has set up www.disabilitybits.co.uk/

Many YA members now use this, and most have said they wouldn't return to YA even if it was re-opened.

I'd recommend members to bookmark www.disabilitybits.co.uk/, Graham is a nice guy, and it is possible to get benefits advice there. although mainly from former YA members.

Hi Rachel,

If it's in relation to DLA, there's a guide ' The Best Possible Disability Living Allowance Claims For Adults On Mental Health Grounds' in the members area.

Also, one for children.

However, we cannot advise members on mental health issues, as we're not medically qualified.
