Morning. I can’t actually remember. Sorry.

If your payments (to pay off your debts) leave the bank on the same day as you receive your Lump, you’ll be fine.

If I recall correctly, my Lump sum was paid with my first ‘pension’ payout. If they have given you the pension payment date already: 16th/ 30th whatever. You can plan and get everything ready beforehand.

Keep documentation. Just to cover yourself.

Try not to get stressed. The main thing is that your ‘savings’ don’t go over 6K. Your ‘day to day’ stuff shouldn’t really count.

Just to get my head round this, as my assessment period is from the 3rd to the 2nd, would getting my pension lump sum be better at the beginning eg around the 3rd onwards Upto the middle of the assessment period rather than the end?
Sorry but I want to get it right and with the medicines it doesn’t always register and I had to ask again.

Hi Vicks123

It is your capital or total savings at the end of the UC Assessment Period that counts. So if you get a lump sum at the very beginning of the UC AP and spend it all legitimately before the end then that lump sum will not count. But remember the DWP has Deprivation of Capital rules.

Hi Vicki. I would see if they can pay you the lump mid-month, so you have space ‘each side’.
Try not to stress though, if this isn’t possible.

I would get everything ‘set up’ so that you can pay your debts off, as soon as you can after you receive the lump.
*Keep all paperwork*

You are not purposefully ‘depriving yourself of capital’. You are very sensibly getting your finances in order after a change of personal circumstances…

My rule is not to tell them anything, but to cover my arse in case they do look into things..
That way you can argue your case.

Take care :-)
