Hi Bud. Mine was different as I wanted to keep under 6K, so my payments were not scrutinised (I was on ESA, as a few years ago).

I kept records of all expenditure in case they queried things.

If your lump is from a pension pot you’ve earnt that money. They have no right to tell you what to spend it on.

A cruise seems a suitable retirement gift to yourself in my opinion. Passion For Cruises has a facebook page if you’re a solo traveller.
