Voluntarily relinquishing DLA entitlement was created by silverymoon
I am a senior citizen in my eighties, who is currently claiming DLA Lower Rate for the Mobility Component and Middle Rate for help with personal care.

I wish to voluntarily relinquish my full entitlement to both the Care and Mobility Components.

On the Benefits and Works forum, post number #84363 posted 13yrs 7 months ago, the author of this post wished to stop claiming their components of DLA.

“Crazydiamond” post number #84369 gave information saying that there would be no need to complete the forms and you should send an explanatory letter/form etc to relinquish the benefit entitlement.

Since this post is 13yrs 7 months old, could you please confirm whether or not this information is still accurate for 2025? At my age, I really do not wish to get embroiled in the complexities of filling in forms.

I would greatly appreciate any information regarding this matter please. Many Thanks.

Hi silverymoon

Welcome to the forum.

You might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explains where everything is; www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/guides-for-claimants/faq/forum.

Not able to access Crazydiamond post.

You can relinquishing DLA entitlement by contacting DWP and report a change of circumstances, you will probably be asked when your circumstances improved, which could create an overpayment.

We would advise you to seek specialist advice from your local Welfare Rights Organisation: advicelocal.uk where they can take all your circumstances into consideration when giving you advice.
