UC housing overpayments miscalculated was created by PippyP
Hello
I am looking for some advice on my UC. I claim a housing element. Since I moved house there have been a number of problems with over and under payments.
The entitlement is now correct but I’ve been told I was overpaid £900. I wasn’t.
I have been repaying £30 per month for more than a year. I went through the complaints process and am now awaiting the ICE to take up my problem.
My issue is that I think I was only overpaid about £400. During the period the pay statements kept being reissued and they don’t reflect the money paid to my bank. I did a subject access of all DWP payments to my bank.
What I’m worried about is that, due to my brain fog, I can’t work out exactly how they have miscalculated the overpayment
. I’ve written out all the figures, and I’ve done a comparison of the total payments vs total entitlement and the difference is £400.
But the DWP have written a whole report about “and on this day it was amended to x, which was incorrect, and then on this date it was amended to y from the wrong date….” It’s so easy to get lost in their figures and report, which makes sense if you don’t refer to the bank payments (they say they referred to the bank payments but obviously didn’t). Each month for a year has about 4-6 different versions of a pay statement.
I’m worried about how well ICE will be able to look into it, it seems to me like it needs an accountant! Can I trust them to figure it out? If not, what can I do? There are reams of pay statements and paperwork making it horrible to pass over to someone else.
Thank you

Hi PippyP
It c an at times seem very complicated, We would advise you to seek help from your local Welfare Rights Specialist; you can find your local Welfare Rights Organisation to help you with advice by clicking on the link below and putting in your post code, it will then come up with a MAP with a list of agencies in your area advicelocal.uk , they will be able to all your circumstances into consideration when giving you advice.
