PIP when moving address was created by Fiona
Hello

I have a question on behalf of my brother, this time around PIP. I thought I'd found the answer elsewhere on the Internet but can't now find it.

He is in receipt of PIP, both at lower rate, was given a 3 year award last year and so is not due to be reassessed until summer 2027. He will be moving to a different area of the country over the next few months and is certain that he will have to reapply as it is a change of circumstances. I don't think he will as it is not his condition(s) that have changed but his address (and therefore his GP and wider medical team) and that he will only need to inform the PIP department of his move so their records are up to date.

I'd be very grateful if you could clarify which it is.

Many thanks for your help.

Hi Fiona

You only need to inform DWP of a change of address, it makes no difference as to what area they are moving to.

Hi again
Thanks for your reply.

Sorry, cognitive difficulties at the moment which means I'm double checking everything to make sure I've understood properly.

So he only has to inform PIP of his change of address and this won't mean he has to have a reassessment/reapply solely as a result of moving?

Apologies again and thanks for your help

Hi Fiona

Changing address does not affect PIP, if you do not report a change of address then the award could be suspended.

Changing address used to affect claimants claiming Housing Benefit if the move was to another local authority.

Hi

We have moved in Sept and i informed DWP straight away.

my thinking was i didnt want any letters to be delayed or go astray bec of the move. Despite having mail redirect in place.

Also i needed revised and updated award letter with correct address as proof for accessing services and benefits in other areas etc

I wasn't aware of the possibility of claim suspension as mentioned by Gary in his reply.

definitely better to keep records up to date

Hi Sum

I am not sure if DWP correspondence can be re-directed due to the possibility of fraud. Which is why you need to let DWP know as soon as you move.
