UC & carers was created by Bud
I’ve just read a post on the above. I didn’t want to jack anyone else’s post so here I am.

If my H can no longer claim carers for me due to being in the support group, would I be able to claim a full carers for him? At the moment my husband claims an underlying entitlement for me. I understand we’d lose other money too. They may expect me to keep trotting up & down to the job centre, which I can’t do so I’m quite prepared for this.

Thanks

Hi Bud

It's a hard question to answer as we do not have all the facts, from the contents of your post I assume that you are a mixed age couple.

As your husband is your carer and you are in the support group, when calculating your UC entitlement you should be eligible to claim both LCWRA and Care element. (single claimants cannot claim both).

UC claim is a joint claim, UC will work out your UC applicable amount which should include Couple standard amount + Housing element if you pay rent + LCWRA + Carer Element minus your husbands state pension and any other pensions they receive.

We would advise you to seek specialist advice from your local Welfare Rights Organisation: advicelocal.uk where they can take all your circumstances into consideration when giving you advice.
