Hi, I am in the process of transferring over to Universal Credit from ESA. I am due to get my statement of what UC I will get next Tuesday. I have just had a lady ring to make an appt for me to go through my commitments for New style ESA. I rang UC and was told that some people are being placed on new style ESA along side UC if they are getting the higher end of ESA. On top of this I got an ESA payment today which I was not expecting. I had intended to ring and make arrangements to return it but now I am not to sure what to do. Does any of this sound right? Has anyone heard of this type of scenario?
It is a hard question to answer as we do not have all the facts.
I will try and answer your question, legacy claimants in receipt of CB ESA will be moved on to NS ESA nothing will change, they are both contribution based benefits.
Claimants in receipt of IR ESA are asked to apply for UC, if you were in the WRAG or support group then you should get the LCW or LCWRA element of UC without having to provide a fit note.
You can get both NS ESA and UC, NS ESA will be deducted £ for £ from UC, UC is paid monthly whereas NS ESA is paid fortnightly.
We would advise claimants to seek advice from their local Welfare Rights Organisation, where all their circumstances can be taken into account.
