"First Commitments" - Appointment was created by Egalitarian_Rights_Forum
Dear B&M Forum,
My total savings have fallen below on £16K threshold.
I made my online application for UC on 09.06.25., my passport and driving licence were electronically verified.
I was called in to the local job centre for a face to Face ID verification with additional proof of ID in the form of Council Tax and Birth Certificate paperwork on 17.06.25. I passed the ID verification. I presented a valid sick note issued by my local GP practice and valid for 28 days.
I'm in receipt of PIP at the lower rate daily living £73.90 and mobility £29.20. This is to be reviewed in December 2026.
I'm being asked to attend a "First Commitments" appointment on 24.06.25.
What should be my strategy for this appointment?

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

Hi
I cannot answer your question without asking for lots of personal information so I think its best that other Forum members share their experiences with you.

Hello David,
Is the best strategy just have a "heart to heart" chat with the DWP representative?

This is the meeting that constitutes a decision about the three category LCWRA, LCW and Looking for work.
Will this meeting determine whether or not I have to fill in the Capability for Work form?

Hi
Have you previously had the DWP medical called a WCA?
If not you are going to provide Fit Notes unless you fall within an exempt category.

Does the fact that I receive PIP place me in the "exempt category"?
I've never had the DWP Work Capability assessment.
