Migration from ESA to UC - What happens with a 'dual claim'? was created by Ripley
Hello
Please could I ask for priceless advice regarding my move from legacy benefit ESA to UC, I have tried to look for similiar queries but remain uncertain. I receive ESA (SUPPORT GROUP) & have done for many years, I worked for many years prior. I recently applied for UC as directed by migration letter. I am awaiting a decision. Yesterday I recieved a letter saying my 'contribution based ESA will change to New Style ESA' & a notice will be sent regarding booking an appointment to a)explain how my illness affects my ability to work b) to agree to tell them should my circumstances change. I didn't know I was in reciept of both CB ESA as all correspondence states 'Income Related ESA'. So it would seem I had both and the move to UC will involve a 'dual claim'??
I had hoped I would be migrated to the UC equivalent of ESA Support Group - the UC LCWRA which would mean an increase in my entitlement of almost £200 per month, a huge plus as I'm sure y'all know. However I have googled myself to death and am fearful I won't get any extra, in fact will get less and unlikely to even get the TP ?? If true this seems beyond grossly unfair and frankly terrifying to say the least.
Does the legacy dual claim only recieve the current allocated amount for New Style ESA ? and no extra UC top up in line with the health element of UC and also no TP to match the legacy ESA Support group I have been recieving. My original claim claim started in 2016 and prior to managed migration application in May 2025 was £318.10 a fortnight.
Thank you for reading this and I'd be so greatful for any advice

Hi Ripley
I cannot predict your entitlement as there are too many factors to take into consideration.
You would be best advised to contact the Citizens Advice Help to Claim service and their phone number is on page 2 of your Managed Migration letter.
Here is a recommendation from our Forum member VIA--
