UC requesting a fit note . was created by vic
Hi
I am so stressed out after reading this ,my nerves ,anxiety has gone through the roof .

I have just gone on Uc after receiving a message
(i have only recently moved over 2 weeks ago from my Leagcy benefits Esa income related & contrbution based)

The message said To Do List (Fit Note)
It says When you applied for UC we told you that you did not need to provide a fit note .
We have since found that you have not had a Work Capability Assessment outcome for your health condition .

What this means
You must now get a fit note from your GP, if you still have an health condition restricts your ability to work then it says to get it dated from when i claimed UC .
It says if for some reason i don't get a fit note then then they will consider me fit for work

I don't know what to do i feel helpless i am in poor health & not up to running around & have no one to help me .
I wish i never bothered moving over will this affect my contribution based esa to ?

Hope you can help me in anyway
thanks
Vic

Hi Vic

I'm really sorry you find yourself in this position, but this is not something we can advise you on or sort out for you.

Is what they said true? Have you never had a work capability assessment? If they are wrong and you've had one - then you need to see if you have a copy of your letter and tell them the details in your journal.

If you haven't ever had an assessment - then you may have no choice but to get a fit note from a doctor for the Unicersal Credit. From what I understand you can claim New Style ESA (contribution based) and UC. The issue of the fit note applies to the Legacy Benefit.

I have always done what told by the dwp.
I remember moving from Incapacity Benefit & they put me in the ESA Support Group Contribution Based .
I only started getting a top income related Esa when i reported a change of circumstances
That i had separated from my wife & we was getting divorced .
I do not have the health capacity to run around sorting this out .
I am in constant pain & suffer with Depression ,Anxiety & panic attacks i haven't slept a wink since reading journal message fearing the worst financially
the words used by the dwp are scaring me this is why UC & disabled shouldn't be connected .
Like i said i am worried about my contribution Esa now
i was told last week by esa i would get paid separately fortnightly but now not sure will happen ?

Hi vic

I expect its a Work Coach who has never heard of Incapacity Benefit who is asking for a Fit Note.
If you tell me the City or County that you live in I can find the correct DWP manager to complain to.

Do you have evidence that you are in receipt of ESA? When the benefit rate increases in April individuals are usually sent a letter confirming how much they will receive. If you have such a letter you could offer to provide a copy of this to UC. I would also suggest that you contact the Help to Claim Service run by Citizens Advice on 0800 144 8 444 the line is open from 8 am to 6 pm, Monday to Friday. I understand that there are currently issues with communications between UC and ESA which is leading to fit notes being requested in error.

Hi Gladioli

Here is the feedback on this from another Forum member--
Hi, had my telephone appointment. It had been rescheduled and the letter emailed to me about the new appointment was a bit more 'personal' . It stated 'We have arranged a telephone interview with a work coach. At this interview you will need to agree and accept your claimant commitment. The claimant commitment is your record of the actions that you need to take to continue getting New Style ESA. It will not include any work-related activities' It also describes it as New Style ESA New Joiner (Migrated Claim as UC Claim). Why on earth was I so worried, there was literally nothing asked. The coach/advisor simply stated why the call is needed, it was to update the claim as I had migrated. Then went through basic security questions (the only questions asked!). I was then told they need to know I am aware to report any changes. This is done by them simply telling you. Thats it. They will email you or post a letter for your records. I was also told that if I needed any help or had any problems with payment to contact said person who would raise it in head office in Belfast where the payments are done. I could use the UC journal for the case manager but if no joy for ESA related matters contact them. THere was absolutely no prying or tricks. It literally, if you dont ask any questions, be over in 3 mins. The letter calls it an interview that will last 30 mins, and we will ask you about your health. They know I was in support group, but in the call it was not mentioned only stated I just need to inform them of any changes like others have said. Hope this puts peoples mind at rest.
