PIP Explanatory phone call before MR was created by Alpro Cherry
Hello moderators
I’m now addressing the MR after having received my daughter’s assessment report with 0 points across the board.

I’ve read your guide, which talks about the DWPs dirty tricks. I need some further clarity regarding the explanatory phone call made by them if they’re of the view that they’re not going to change the decision.

My daughter is a teacher and cannot answer her phone during working hours, plus even if at home, may not answer at all.

I can support her regarding what to say if she did answer- I. e. “Thankyou for explaining that, I have nothing more to add at this stage and I would like to go ahead with the MR”, but what happens if she just doesn’t answer the calls???

Please advise.
Kind regards

Hi Alpro Cherry

The DWP often say they have made that call, but in reality, many claimants never receive one. If your daughter doesn't get a call, she can ring the DWP and ask for it, or just proceed with the MR. If she's not there when a call comes through - she can still ring and ask, but trying to match up a time that fits both her and the DWP may be difficult.

Thanks BIS
But just to clarify -
If she doesn’t get / doesn’t answer a call - will the MR be closed down or will they just do it without speaking to her?

Just to be clear - we would 100% prefer not to have to deal with a call. I will send a detailed MR so I can’t see the need for them to need any further information.

Or are you saying we must make this call happen or the MR will be ended??

With thanks

Hi Alpro Cherry

You do not need a call to do a MR, you can complete a form called a CRMR1 form; www.gov.uk/government/publications/chall...ork-and-pensions-dwp

Thank you Gary
And I apologise for being unclear still.
We are sending the MR in writing using the official form plus a letter. Given this, is my daughter likely to get a phone all? Or will they just respond in writing as would seem logical? And if she is likely to get a call (which we don’t want) what would the consequences be of not answering it??
Kind regards

Hi Alpro Cherry

They are only supposed to make a call if when doing an MR - the decision remains unchanged. Whether they speak to your daughter or not - they will send a letter with the result. It makes no difference to the DWP whether they speak to claimants or not. Often, they say they have tried to phone claimants twice when claimants report receiving no incoming calls.
