Transferred from ESA to uc was created by spasm
Hi all wondering if you can help me. I have recently been asked to move over to UC from ESA. The amount of ESA I was getting has been reduced by about £92 a week but I am still getting some ESA. My wife is getting cares allowance for me. Is it better to fully transfer over to UC or to keep my ESA component. I am receiving the limited capability for work from UC now which I didn't have for my first payment from UC which that have been awarded and back paid now. I'm having many issues with UC at the moment with overpayments and underpayments. My first payment they said they owed me nothing, they payed about 3/4 of my rent and I would have to make the shortfall up, 2 days later they had overplayed me by £170 because there was an overlap of ESA and UC payments. When I then asked for a case manager to have a look at the claim he said there had been an underpayment of £270 because they had not included my limited capability for work component. So now I have had my second statement it's said my UC £123 (after rent has been deducted) they have also said there is a £91 deduction for debt. I contacted the debt agency but they could not understand why they were collecting the debt so back to the initial question is it better for me to transfer fully over to UC or keep the ESA component Thank you in advance rob

Hi yes we did have a managed migration letter it was to be filled in by June the seventh.
However we had to be rehoused in the same council area and we had to claim rent from may 3, so that is when we made our managed claim to universal credit.
On the original claim they did not include my entitlement to limited capability for work and work-related activity group.
They then gave me an extra payment of £278.33. I think they did not give me the full amount of money because it was part claim ESA and part claim UC.
So now we are moving on to the second month of universal credit and they have included my limited capability for work activity payment, but now they are saying they're going to take £94.21 pence, I was very confused at this so I contacted them they told me to contact the dete management department which I did they looked at the debt and said there was no information as to what the debt was for but they were to take the money off use me and my wife. I asked for a case manager to have a look at this on the 4th of June but I have not had a reply. We are due our money tomorrow and I don't think that is anything I can do now to stop the 94 pound from going out of my claim.
Yours Rob

Hi spasm
Yes it is too late to stop tomorrow's deduction. If you look at your new payment statement on the UC account it will state the amount of the deduction for debt. But they never link this to a reason or provide an explanation. There have been so many complaints about this. DWP Debt Management act like a law unto themselves.
Also a UC Case Manager is not a manager at all. They are the lowest rung of administrators who are supposed to managed UC payments. They don't have any different access to DWP Debt Management than you which means phoning them for an explanation.
Let me know how you get on.
