How to begin with notifying DWP of changes to capability

Not necessarily, although the way in which the claimant's illness has progressed means they would likely qualify for increased support. It's also to ensure that they're getting the right number of points in each category, in anticipation of the Govt's proposed changes to the qualifying points usage, where they need to score (I think it's) four points in at least one category in order to qualify for the Daily Living component.

I should also clarify: This is PIP we're talking about here; I don't think I was clear about that in my OP. I hope I have not posted this in the wrong forum. The claimant *is* in the support group, but for their UC claim. That's why they are in the Support Group; as far as I know, PIP doesn't have a support group. Sorry if I have posted this in the wrong place!

Hi King-Drax_l

I think you are trying to pre-empt the outcome of the Disability Green Paper. I would wait until the law has been officially changed before trying to help a friend with their PIP.
Keep an eye on announcements in the News section of BenefitsandWork.

Hi David, well, it's more that the Green Paper made me look at the claimant's claim again (I should say that I am their carer and Appointed Person, not just a friend, but I am aware that the DWP infiltrate these pages!), and that was when I noticed that their condition had gradually deteriorated over the years.

As changes have to be reported by law, I therefore would reiterate my question - where do I start? It's not entirely about the Green Paper, it's just that that was what prompted me to look and discover that the claim is not really accurate any more. Sure, it probably will result in increased benefit, which would be good, but the main thing is that I want to comply with the law.

So, how do I start, please?

Hi King_Drax_I

Following your unverified comment that the DWP infiltrate these pages I no longer think it appropriate to give you advice.

What! I have been a member for years, and I have seen other comments on other threads to that effect.

So what do I do then, resign my membership? This really is crazy. I need advice; why have you decided to do this to me? Just because I say a tongue-in-cheek comment about the DWP?

Ok then, no doubt this will meet with a stonewall, but how do I appeal, and how do I get an answer to my question? Or can't you help with that either?

Hi King_Drax_I

Contact the PIP helpline: 0800 121 4433 to report a change of circumstances, you will be sent a new PIP claims form to complete, if you are successful and awarded a higher amount then it should be backdated to the date of your phone call.

Keep a note of the name of the person you spoke to along with date and time.
