Do I need to tell UC that child tax credit overpaid me?

Hello,

I have to wait many weeks for my first universal credit payment.

Child tax credit overpaid me.
I contacted child tax credit who said they will sort it out and send me a letter.

Do I need to go to my UC journal and send them a message to tell them I was overpaid child tax credit and if so, do I send my message to my work coach which is one of the option given?

Or will I get in trouble if I do not notify them?

Thank you very much.
Best wishes.

Hi VIA

Tax credits are administered by the HMRC whilst UC is administered by the DWP. They are separate government departments. You do not have to inform the DWP of an overpayment of tax credits. Tax credits work by estimates of annual income and over and under payments are common.

Hope this helps.
