Migration and new style ESA? Do I need to tell universal credit? was created by Sam
Hello, so it seems after several years in the support group my migration to universal credit will include a claim for contributions based ESA or new style. Other than letters and a random £20 (ISH) payment into my account I've not heard anything so do I need to put it in my universal credit journal? Or will they already know that I'm automatically claiming new style ESA? And I assume deduct it from my UC amount when they generate my first statement?
The communication on this from them has been terrible, the letters are vague as hell. If I didn't know about new style already from reading on here I'd be very confused as to why I'm getting was letters! And the migration was going pretty smoothly until then too!

Hi Sam
Your previous Contributions Based ESA becomes New Style ESA on Managed Migration. It is basically the same thing. It is deducted £ for £ from your UC.
The letters from the ESA department are notorious for being confusing.
Hope this helps.

So I don’t need to put it in my journal? I would think the answer would be “no obviously they know” but I think with the levels of competence we usually get from the dwp i thought I’d check
Thanks

Hi Sam
I would not worry , just keep an eye on the To Do's in your UC account.
