DWP cancelled biographical telephone call to in person i/v & I can't walk atm

I've been so nervous about this move to UC from ESA but finally applied last week ahead of my 2nd Feb deadline and the stress has triggered my Lupus so bad that on Saturday last my knees suddenly swelled to double in size and I can hardly get to the loo let alone to a job centre on Friday. They cancelled the biographical telephone call 15 minutes before it was supposed to happen. What do I do? What do I write in the journal entry? Currently on hold to GP to get an appointment to get the problem on record. Do I ask for a sick note? Any help gratefully received. Should I text the Citizens Advice Help to Claim Service?

Hi Ess,

There could be many reasons why your Biographical Test to verify your ID was cancelled. A UC Biographical Test needs the interaction of agents at 2 different offices and also for IT systems to be working. So may be there was an issue in one of those areas.
I think it would be a good idea to get some advice from Citizens Advice Help to Claim and let them contact the DWP for you.

Let me know how you get on.

Hi, thank you for replying. I made a journal entry that said I had a sick note but could not find a way to upload it. (I had previously made a journal entry that as I was migrating form the support group I didn't need to supply sick notes) but I thought it best to get one as I was at the GPs anyway). So after that entry they cancelled the in person appointment. Then a few days later they booked a telephone appointment for me.

I wrote in my journal:

Thank you. Can you please explain to me how I show you my documents? Should I expect a Facetime like call? Do I need to have a special app? I don't quite understand. Should I have digital copies of these documents prepared beforehand to upload? Regards

To which they promptly cancelled the telephone appointment and I've not heard a peek from them ever since.

I log in every other day just to see if there's a message but there's nothing. It's really stressful.

How do you share the documents in a telephone appointment? Or are they just waiting for my knees to be better so they can force me to an in person appointment? Would appreciate any advice. Thanks.

Hi ESS

That would be unusually considerate of Universal Credit to wait, as you say, for your knees to be better. Do you know when you will be receiving your first UC payment? I assume we are talking about Migration to UC ?

Hi, yes it's forced migration from ESA to UC. I wasn't sure if I would get a fast response from you so I contacted the CAB and they encouraged me to contact DWP asap as it was nearly two weeks after last contact and they were worried they might have cancelled my claim and not told me. So I did that and a few hours later I got a call from a lady at the local job centre who said I would be contacted for a home visit.

I logged on to the DWP site today and there was no journal entry to say that, so I made one. I have no idea when my first UC payment is/would be as I've not had the biographical i/v yet (just noticed I wrote biological in the subject of the post sorry!).

Do you have any documents on do's and don'ts or what to expect from home visits? Can I ask them in advance that I wouldn't want them to use my loo? I'm dreading it and need to find someone to be with me, will they give me time to check I can get someone to be with me? Any advice gratefully appreciated.

Hi Ess

I suppose on arrival you could inform the Visiting Officer that the toilet is not in operation so that they could make an alternative arrangement. ( Don't offer him/her a cup of tea though)
You can ask him/her to phone you an hour before arrival so as to give enough time for your companion to arrive.
The questions the Visiting Officer will ask will be the same as a Work Coach in a Jobcentre except that the interview is being conducted in your home.

Let me know how you get on.
