Pip letter question was created by Philip B
My PIP award was reviewed recently and it continues with the standard rate for both daily living needs and mobility. Thank you for the guides by the way. My question is my award letter states the assessor can give me a longer award but the actual dates on the front of the letter is for 4 years. My previous award was 5 years so this does not add up. When the assessor states 'longer award' does this mean:
Thanks for your help.
- there is a standard length of time for PIP and he has increased this time
- the DWP computer has given me 4 years in error
Thanks for your help.

Hi Will
PIP award lengths vary from 9 months to 10 years.
I don't know why, this time, the assessor gave you 4 years. It says they 'could choose to give you a longer award' - but they didn't - indeed they didn't give you even the same as last time. I think it is unlikely to be a computer error. It is the decision maker who decides the award length. The only way to find out if it is an error is to ring and ask.

I looked at the dates again and the award started in November 2024. I filled in the PIP review form February 2024, 10 months prior, so it works out at just under 5 years. My award runs out in October 2024 but it also says the DWP will not contact me before October 2024. It is usually a year before the award finishes so not sure why that would change.
