concern re PIP changes for those abroad was created by pusscatsmum
Very concerned re the PIP consultation papers and its ominous outcome which will surely come. Some people have been on PIP for some considerable time. Many of us have used what peanuts they give us to pay for carers, mobility aids which have been suggested by the NHS, but have to be purchased with our money. For example stairlifts, rise and recline beds, baths, showers etc etc. Although required, the NHS and Occ Therapy/Physio etc as funds are not there , we have to purchase them. Different LA's, have different criteria and rules. Some of us have moved abroad and altho we lose our mobility component, which for some of us it is a ridiculous legislation, as mobility issues do not cease if mobility is one of your main reasons for obtaining PIP. However we do receive the care component if one is lucky enough. Overseas for carers etc, costs are higher and tend to be cash in hand for carers. So being able to provide receipts etc will not be applicable or feasible. Also many who receive PIP, may also be receiving Industrial Injury Benefit. This is only payable if one continues to receive PIP, if residing abroad. Surely the govt must realise those who receive such benefits who reside abroad , actually save the NHS etc a lot of money and time. If we lose our PIP/IIB as a cash payment would be detrimental to many and would necessitate a return to the UK. This would cost the govt/tax payers more and also it can be mentioned that if one tries to return and ask for assistance we are told we have intentionally made ourselves homeless. These and many other things come into play in regards to this new Green paper. Many of us can understand that certain criteria etc can be manipulated to suit the DWP. Many of us with conditions that will never improve, may get worse or have a life shortening problem the idea of vouchers, a lump sum to purchase certain goods etc is not a feasible proposition. Furthermore we have signed a contract with the DWP and we abide by it to obtain the little financial redress we receive and at no time did we sign up to this being removed. We are told not to worry as this is only a Green Paper , but this does demonstrate a tide of reformation to the detriment of those who are disabled and unwell.
