Hi guys,

Dont know if this is in your remit, if not can you suggest where I can get the info please, as I understand that the helpline is no longer functioning?

I get Incapacity Benefit and I get Income Support for my wife. She is my Carer and gets Carers Allowance. We have zero savings and zero other income (apart from DLA).

Just had a letter from a private insurance that my wife paid years back and they say that she could now draw the £2k thats in the pot (very small pot!) on her birthday. That would be a one off payment with no other premiums being paid.

The question is, do you know how this will affect our benefits ie my Income Support, or my wifes Carers Allowance?

We are not really in a position to give financial advice on the forum, so I would recommend that you get face to face advice before proceeding.

Where to get advice?

Based on what you have posted, I would not expect it to affect your IB or CA, but it does have the potential to have an impact on your IS payments although I think this unlikely.
