Obtaining DWP permission to drawdown overpayments

Does anyone know what criteria the DWP use to decide?
Background: I told both DWP and my mortgage provider about the likely drawdowns in April/May, neither mentioned I’d need DWP permission, so I went ahead with home adaptations (which the drawdowns would partly cover) and now my mortgage provider tells me I need DWP permission before the mortgage provider will pay me over half of my drawdown request.
I’ve raised a complaint with the mortgage provider, and have asked the DWP for permission. Whilst I wait to hear from the DWP, I'm deeply concerned about what the outcome is likely to be.

Unless one of our members has experience of this then I am afraid we cannot help.
I would recommend that you get face to face advice from a trained advisor.
Where to get advice?

Gordon has quite correctly advised that you seek face to face advice from a trained adviser.
However, as I'm a trained adviser but know nothing about this, I rather suspect other trained advisers would be in the same boat, but it's always worth trying.
I'd recommend that you deal directly with the DWP on this, as they will have guidance on this in their Blue Volumes of Social Security Law.

Thank you for sharing this. It’s well worth knowing that it may be difficult to obtain information and guidance on this. I hadn’t heard of the Blue Volumes before, so thank you for letting me know that they exist! And even if I don’t find an advisor who knows about this issue, I’ll learn at some stage where my existing direct approach to the DWP leads.
However, if anyone else reading this has had any experience of flexible mortgage drawdowns, and being required to obtain DWP approval, I’d love to read what your experience was!
Thank you again Jim!
