They are required to keep a record of when data is destroyed; this may be a generic record, data of this type is destroyed after x days, or a specific record; this set of data was destroyed on dd/mm/yy. however, this type of control does not always apply to data in a computer system and to some extent it will depend on the way that the data is physically and logically organised. Some computer data is updated in place, effectively destroying the previous version with a new version, there is likely to be a record that it was updated, but not necessarily details of the update, and in some systems the before and after image may be captured for security and back up.

The bottom line is that a person would need to have an intimate knowledge of the actual computer system, possibly at a code level to be able to answer your question definitively.
