When making an ESA claim and you phone DWP what do they ask you; is this when you complete the ESA 1? Do they then send an ESA 50 which has a lot more detail, to be completed with a month?
I am really confused by the process as I looked at the ESA1 and it is really limited in respect of the impact of your condition etc.
Although I am in the process of applying for ill health deferred nhs pension. It is taking so long that I need to have an income. I understand that if my pension is over £85 per week I will have deductions. If I am awarded my pension I may have to repay the ESA, or part of it. The pension may not even be decided in the next few months and has already been in train since early July. They are waiting for report form specialist and have prompted on two occasions without success! This is holding everything up.
Yes, you need to complete and return an ESA1 and then somewhat later an ESA50 will be sent to you, do not forget that you will also need to supply a Fit Note.
Have a look at our Understanding ESA guide as to how the ESA claim process works.
