IB TO AA OR ESA was created by Mel B
Hi guys
I live on the Isle of Man and am on IB . I am moving back to the UK next year.
I am 64 in Dec and am on IB becuse I cannot work because of my medical issues. I am sure I will be on IB till 65 if I stay in the island but no sure what will happen when I move.
Will I still be IB or will this change to AA as I am not in the jobs sitution. I read that AA had stopped.
Does the AA change to ESA until I am 65 then at 65 it all stops. Im a bit confused on this area.
Could anybody help to un-confuse me please.
Cheers

You should check that your IB is transferable to the UK as I believe that the Isle of Man operates it own benefit system, so I would get face to face advice before proceeding.
IB and AA are separate benefits, IB is the equivalent of ESA and AA is the equivalent of DLA in the UK, but is for claimants who apply over the age of 65.
So under normal circumstances I would expect your IB to be transferred to ESA for the short period before you reach State Retirement Age, but I am not sure how your IB being from the Isle of Man will affect this, again something to speak to an advisor about.

Hi Gordon
Thanks for that cheers.
The IOM uses the same law for benefits as the Uk I checked this with the tribunal service over here as I am going to appel for dla. I will doule check with social care nearer the time. The system over here is still the old uk system and we do not know when they will take it on.
The IOM are keeping quite on when they are changing to pip. I asked them in writing and they refused to answer my question!! Like in the uk it will upset a lot of people who will have their benefits and mobility cars taken away under the new point system. If I stay here when I get to 65 the IB changes to AA but as you say I will need to check with the UK to see what will happen as I will only have 9 months till I am 65 and on pension.
Cheers and many thannx as always.
