ESA Medical was created by dribble
I was on IBS and transferred to ESA Contiributory . First time I was placed in the Wrag group but appealled and was then placed in the Support group.

I now 15 months later have to go to an ESA medical. I live on my own and don't have help to get to the medical.
I do drive short distances and have a special seat in my car. Can't drive without it.

I also have to use my car to get to my mothers as taxis and public transport is very difficult got me.

Will this go against me at the medical??

Also if I fair and appeal how long do appeals take?

I have a small pension but not enough to live on. What are we supposed to do for money while waiting for appeal??

Any help would be appreciated. B)

The fact that you drive will be something that is considered, but it does not mean that it a significant impact on your claim, some of the things it indicates are concentration, multi-tasking and the ability to sit for long periods, so if these factors are not at the heart of your problems then it should not be an issue.

Should you need to appeal, then typical time are in the range 6-10 months or possibly longer. If you are appealing from the WRAG to the Support Group then you will continue to receive the WRAG rate, if you are appealing a Fit for Work Decision then you should be entitled to the ESA Assessment rate.

If you did not attend a medical the last time then the following may be of assistance.

Hello Gordon,

Thank you for your reply.

Yes, sitting a big problem but car ok with special seat for short distances.

Desk chairs, dining room chairs a big no no....

No good in other peoples cars.

I guess I shall have to keep my fingers crossed!

To think I should have retired in July. This pension move by the government has had a dire effect on people like me. I wouldn't be going through this otherwise.

Me too. I'm just starting the re-assessment process.

I felt driving to the assessment went in my favour - it avoided standing around waiting for a bus, reduced the journey time, and I didn't have to interact with other people.

So if you can explain your driving in a way that it shows your disability rather than your ability, it may not go against you.

All the best
Elaine
