I wrote in during April and May about my daughter's claim to IB being changed to ESA.
The very good news is "You have been placed in the support group because ...."
The question is - I thought I had read somewhere that there would be a time limit stipulated but nothing in the letter gives a time limit - did I get this wrong?
But so far as the good news is concerned - thank you all very much for helping me to help my daughter who could not have done anything to help herself.

ESA awards are indefinite but there will be a re-assessment date, however, as it is not part of the award, the vast majority of ESA Decision letters do not include this information.
You should be able to find out this date by calling your local DWP office, but failing that you can request the ESA85 medical report if she had an assessment and the ESA85A if she did not, the prognosis is usually used to set the re-assessment date.

I was confused partly because the letter also said that the amounts shown were from 29th Aug to 27th November 2013. 3 months .
She had no kind of assessment - they based it on the form I completed.
I do remember somewhere someone saying there was a maximum 3 year limit on this?
I will write and ask for the form though
Thank you very much

The November date relates to the claimant's eligibility for the Christmas bonus, it has nothing to do with the length of the ESA award (which, as Gordon said, is indefinite). This comes up very frequently and causes a lot of confusion!

The person I care for was placed in the WRAG, but given an indefinite prognosis on the ESA85A - this didn't make sense, as WRAG folk are defined as able to get back to work one day!

Hi B,
In theory all ESA awards in either group are indefinate, and do not come with a fixed term for the award like DLA, where the length of the fixed term DLA award actually formed part of the award and could be appealed.
Each ESA award does however come with a prognosis, which is the recommended duration of the award before reassessment.
The shortest prognosis is 3 months, and the longest is 3 years.
The DWP have stated that 3 years is the maximum for reasons pertaining to administration.
Therefore, there is no such thing as an indefinite prognosis for an ESA award.
There is an "In the longer term" prognosis which generally equates to a 2-3 year prognosis.
