Thanks again, can I ask how likely is it that a care review could result in complete loss of award. Although morally I feel my care needs have increased and that an MR award would be appropriate for how I am now, I have never pursued it as I do not want to rock the boat and lose what I already have. I was just thankful to get anything.
I am very reluctant to lose my existing award even though I feel I have a very good case. Is it very hard to get an increased award. Thanks.
Hi mcw,
I couldn't possibly give a definitive answer.
When requesting a review of your care needs, you could stipulate that your mobility limitations remain the same, and you only wish your care needs reviewing.
However, the two components of DLA are classed as one allowance.
You could have this issue risk assessed by an adviser at CAB or some other advice agency. :

Thanks again Bro I wonder if you could clarify something for me.
1. Do I need to ring the DLA unit and ask for my care needs to be reviewed and be sent a DLA form?
2. Or do I need to write to the DLA unit explaining same and will then be sent a DLA form to fill in?
3. Or do I need to write to the DLA unit explaining my position and give as much info on why I feel my care needs have changed, in what capacity and ask them to look at it again? In which case how much info do I need to give and shall I use the DLA guides from this site.
I am a bit confused as I assumed if I rang them they would send me out a change of circumstance form but it seems as though you are saying it may well trigger a new DLA form being sent out. Will that be the full one or this 4 page one I have heard about? Thanks.

You should write to the DLA Unit, that way there is an official record of the Change of Circumstances, but I would recommend that you go through the DLA Claim guide first, to be sure that you satisfy the requirement for Medium Rate Care, this is the best way to reduce the risk to your current award of LRC.
I would expect a full DLA form and be pleased if you receive a short one, although I think it unlikely.

Thank you for the reply, I was on another forum and saw that some people asking for a CofC had received the 4 page form to fill in and they seemed to think that the full version would actually be a better option as they seemed to feel disadvantaged by the short form, is it true this is merely a pilot for certain areas of the UK?
I will certainly do as you say, I have been considering this for some time, since my DLA was originally awarded in 2008 and 5 years is a long time and my health has deteriorated and my care needs have definitely increased.
As I said though I was very thankful to get anything so unwilling to rock the boat. I am very nervous about doing this in case my mobility is also looked at (despite the fact I will make it clear this there is no change in mobility) but feel that I have a good case. I just hope I will not lose my LRC award instead.
I did mention a lot of this on my recent ESA form but I don't suppose I will be lucky enough to get my DLA award changed simply from that.
Am going to contact Welfare Rights tomorrow to see what they say as they helped me last time. And I will of course use the guides. Thanks again for your help.

Even if you get the short form it does not stop you adding extra pages and you could use the Claim Guides as a template for the information to include.

If I decide to go ahead and I receive the form do I just put a line through the mobility section or will this invalidate my claim? I intend to make it clear in any correspondence that the mobility award is not under review but obviously this is the DWP we are dealing with so it needs to be obvious.
I was looking for an online DLA eligibility test, I know I used one before that gave an indication of what you MIGHT be able to claim but I cannot seem to find it anymore.
