I returned my ESA50 2nd week in June with a target date of July 1st. I am in the North East and transferring from IB to ESA. My father died on 18th May and left me a considerable sum, more than 16k, when the DWP first rang me with instructions on the ESA I told the advisor of my inheritence and he said we dont need to know about that as you are contribution based, is this correct?
Final question how long before they contact me, as far as I can tell I am still being paid IB benefit to my account?
I'm afraid that it is impossible to estimate how long it might take to get the decision on your claim, it varies hugely from one area to another. Several months is not at all unusual.
All people on IB will be transferred (assessments allowing) to contributory ESA, income and savings do not affect this (except for occupational pension in some situations). This is limited to 365 days for people put into the 'Work Related Activity Group', after this time the claimant will be means-tested to see if they are entitled to income-related ESA. There is no such limit to time in the Support Group.
