  			 				My husband has been placed in the support group without a medical. This is such a relief for now at least.It took about 5 weeeks for the decision to be made.

As it is optional whether or not copy of an ESA50 is sent to the DM also, it will not probably impact on a claimant's ESA WCA decision, unless there is a problem at the ATOS end of things.
 
Think of it as a "failsafe" just as a fuse may sit in the plug of an electrical appliance for many years without blowing.
 
It only protects you if there is a fault situation, then it performs its purpose, blows, breaks the circuit and protects you from electrical shock or fire.
 
Obviously the use of the correct fuse in a plug, is not optional though, this is a "must do"
