Good news but have an appointee question!

Have used your fabulous guides and my son's DLA has been renewed for post 16 so firstly many thanks :)

We were due a visit from DWP today to discuss me being the appointee so I rang the office the day I got the letter to say not before 3.30pm as he's at school ... the lady turned up at 2 o'clock!

She suggested that he is kept off school for the next visit (!) but when I mentioned that he was taking GCSEs she promptly said that in that case he would be very unlikely to have an appointee ...

My question is ... is she speaking off the top of her head? He has an IQ of over 140 but would give money away to anyone who asked him or spend it all on computer games. We use the DLA at the moment to pay towards the cost of fibre optic broadband etc etc from our own account ... I'm not convinced he will understand or be able to set up a payment from his account to ours to cover it nor will he agree to be taken to the bank to withdraw the cash. Is there a link to a DWP document about when an appointee is required or is it just on the whim of the official visitor? I need to be prepared for when they come again!

Hi,

I am sorry but matters such as appointees, courts of protection and such orders are way beyond the remit of the forum.

It maybe wise to obtain face to face advice from such as a CAB who should be able to point you in the right direction.

Pete is correct, but see the DirectGov website : Making an application to the Court of Protection
