sever disability premium..income support was created by sunshinedennis
Hello all
I have been on income support with a disability premium of £28 a week, so £93 something for the last 18 months, I was awarded DLA (13th oct) of lower rate mobility and middle rate care last week.
I believed this entitled me to severe disability premium on my IS, of £53(?) a week. I live alone apart from my 3 year old daughter, and no one gets any money for my care.
I rang IS to tell them of my getting DLA and the woman said she'd send me a form as I may be entitled the a higher premium.
I also received a form with my DLA award.
I sent one back on monday 18th.
Today I received a letter say I was not due anything extra, dated 14th oct, the day after my DLA was awarded and before I had even filled in a form for the IS premium.
online it says that i am due an increased premium. anyone able to help?

Hey
All I know is that applies to ESA as well as IS. I am in the support group for ESA, before my tribunal I was on the assessment phase of ESA and still received it. I have just looked on line nd this does seem to be the case.

Hey Andy,
Am confused. Are in the "Support Group" or ESA? I thought these were different. I thought the "Support Group" were for those who have long term chronic illnesses and are homebound/bedbound? Whereas ESA are for those engaged in work related activity for one year only?

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

There are two groups associated with claiming ESA, the Support Group which is normally for people with very debilitating illnesses and conditions and the Work Related Activity Group for everyone else.
You can also be on Contribution Based ESA or Income Based ESA, irrelevant of group. Todays announcements limited the time you can stay on Contribution Based ESA to one year, after that you would go onto Income Vased ESA providing you meet the income and savings requirements.
Hope this explains it.

Thanks for the clarfication, Stephen.
How can I find out if I meet the criteria to migrate onto the "Support Group" (SG)? Where can I find relevant information containing points system for the Support Group?

The Support Group is not points based, you need to meet one or more of the qualifying criteria.
I've not seen these listed in a single place, but if you look in the ESA section of the members area there are two documents, ESA Claims for Physical Health amd Mental Health, these document the criteria in relation to each of the ESA50 tests.
