Is house maintenance relevant to DLA?

If you own your house or are in private rented get in touch with a company called Warm Front. You will find them by google also. They do government grant work and they will replace or and install gas central heating on a grant that doesn't have to paid back. They also add cavity wall and update loft insulation on this scheme. Also if you contact the adult social services elderly team or adult team you maybe entitled to a grant of up to £5000 for repairs to your home. Certain conditions apply like if you sell the house within 5 years you have to pay the money back. It is a scheme run by all local councils through social services though terms may vary.

I've already been briefly in touch with Mind and CAB but yet to talk to them about carers allowance. I've tried to find a webpage about what constitutes care but so far struggled to find anything yet more than describing it as 35 hours a week. I've not found a B&W page on it yet, anyone know of a webpage?

I have had similar issues. Contact your GP for referrals to the relative bodies. i.e. Occupational Health and Socail Services. I am surprised that your GP has not broached this subject before. Social Services do a wonderful Adult Social Care Programme which I am on. Your local council should be able to supply an application form for a Home Improvement Grant and because you are on DLA you will be eligible upto £30,000 for improvements.
Please don't give up because there are people out there who want to help you.
So pick up the telephone and make an appointment to see your GP.

My GP doesn't know much about me as i have communication problems but my community mental health nurse does. She thinks my dad is just eccentric living the way he does.

I thought perhaps after getting to know dad that he'd be referred to a psychiatrist!

I don't think she's mentioned anything about these other things you've mentioned apart from once mentioning a boiler grant last winter i think.

She's been more keen on the idea of me getting a free flat from the council once i get my DLA and ESA sorted and help for me to live independently away from dad.

If i did start living away from dad i suppose my DLA home improvement grant would have to used on a rented flat?

I found out a whie back that i had been discharged from CMHT last year but that my CMH nurse helps me on an informal basis.

What does infomal basis mean?
