What actually is the point?

This what worries me about HMG, by law they have to provide for the country's unemployed, sick and disabled, they cannot just take it away and leave people with nothing otherwise they are breaking the law of the land - does that matter to them? obviously not from what is going on. they'll just change the law in all probability.

Might not need to change it; a well spun re-phrasing of eligibility could suffice, such that those who no longer get anything are in that position through their own free choice. Which of course would only be "true" because of government/DWP/agency semantics...
But nowadays the Government owns the Law, Country, Constitution and People anyway (or so it would appear); so that's presumably ok.

Hi Ranald. The way you are feeling is the way the Govt and Press want you to feel. Just ask yourself am i legally entitled to the benefits i receive? The answer will be yes. So dont let them get to you. I heard something yesterday on local radio about benefits etc it was stated Tax Fraud is happening on a scale of 10 times more than benefit fraud and there is no public outcry about that. Best Wishes

Thanks for the support Jeff i really appreciate it but i have come to realise that the public view us as a stain on humanity and i doubt there will be many tears shed if we all end up on 65 quid JSA with no hope of employment or a decent quality of life.

I think you are correct - they won't be tears, they will be angry accusations and we will become a reason to attack and 'insentivese' the long-term unemployed back to work.

As we will have no choice but to continue not working - though now we will be the long-term unemployed. This makes us the 'undeserving poor' - a phrase that has come back into use. This makes us feckless workshy scroungers - as opposed to just malingerers. Once in this bracket after 1 year we will see our housing benefit cut by 10%. Once we have swelled the ranks of this particularly hated benefit group we will become a handy stick with which to bring in further draconian measures.

I foresee possible suspension of benefit after 2 years. We will certainly be made to work after a year - as is in the current plans.

I think unless some common sense starts to be applied people will die - more than the current 38,000 premature deaths predicted over the coming decade.

I am afraid, I have no safety net - other than the welfare state.
