Thinking...as you do. if the Government is doing all it can to get people off disability benefits, suggesting that a huge percentage is actually fit for work and should not be claiming ESA, DLA etc etc. What actually is the point?

I may be missing the wood for the trees here but if they transfer you to JSA which can then be topped up with Income Support, where is the overall financial benefit to HMG?

It costs crazy money to administer, take the huge increase in appeals as just one area, ATOS, et cetera. On the assumption the wrong people are being classified as JSA, not ESA, there is not enough jobs for the able bodied let alone genuine disabled persons that are being put on JSA, now I may be thick at times but what precisely is the reason, and what possible positive outcome can HMG hope to achieve? is it just to get a results for paperwork stats? Surely not!

As I understand it (and I may be wrong) if you're on IB now (a non-means tested benefit) and fail to be transferred to CB ESA then if you have a partner bringing in a wage then presumably you will be put onto CB JSA which is only payable for 26 weeks.

But if you don't have a wage coming in from anyone else and don't find work after 26 weeks one would assume it would all become income support? I can't believe there would be nothing available should ESA fail?

Perhaps crony-profit, plus whatever pleasure may be derived via abuse of power against those least able to kick back.... and, unfortunately, amongst many of the media-primed public a sanctimonious satisfaction in the thought that others are being made to suffer "all for their own good" (and some who couldn't care less so long as suffering is inflicted anyway).
Thus it will help to counterbalance the Government's inevitable unpopularity on other matters.

Income Support no longer exists for new customers so presumably one would go onto Income Based JSA, but any savings and/or pension income would still be taken into account.

So again armed with that information (and thank you for that), I say again, if savings are less than 16k or under 6K or under 10K (older category)and you CAN still claim what do HMG really save at the end of it all?

Sorry but I just cannot fathom this out...what in reality are they trying to prove or save?
