No Reports Sent with Visiting Medical Officer

DLA medical cannot understand or make a decision on any of the medical information I sent. They arranged for a medical officer to visit last week and it did not go well. I explained that my son had not left the house on his from 2007 since his health went bad and he had to see quite a few consultants to get to the root of his problem. He said that he was going to assess his mobility by making him walk from my front door to his car outside to see how much pain he is in. I asked how he was going to assess his IBS and chronic constipation issue with the mobility. He said that he had not been given any of the hospital documents prior to his visit. He asked my son, when the problem started and he was nervous and gave the wrong answer. I corrected him. He then asked him when the problem first got worse and when his GP first referred him to a consultant.

At that point I stopped the interview and gave him the letters of his questions as my son started asking me when things had happened. He said that he did not have the time to read them and said he was going to recommend sending my son to an assessment centre and ask that they send any relevant paperwork before he goes. Every time I speak to GP/consultants about him not leaving the house on his own and he refuses to walk along aside. He will go out being accompanied. They assure me that it is a symptom of all he has been through and once they get his symptoms settled as they have to keep trying different medicines to control his IBS/constipation. They believe that because he cannot absorb vitamins hence his legs will hurt (he also has flat feet and has to wear insoles in both shoes, he was given crutches by the hospital, over a year ago but refused to take them to school re bullying), this had a knock on effect on his stomach hence IBS and delayed emptying. This is not the first time, I have had to knock heads with professionals and it’s tiring.

DLA have advised that they are waiting for the report from the visiting GP and will pass it back to the decision maker. Meanwhile the medical team have agreed to put the medical assessment on hold until main DLA make a decision. I lost my job with a good income in 2008 in trying to sort out his health needs and remain on benefits at the moment as there is no childcare available. Please don’t mention social services. The lost of his mobility award is causing such financial hardship coupled with the current high petrol prices. The whole thing is playing havoc with my health now and I cannot afford to be sick, as I am a single parent. Any advice would be most helpful. Many thanks.
